In 1949, Hideki Yukawa won the Nobel Prize in Physics, becoming the first Nobel Proze winner from his home country of Japan. The prize was awarded for his work in elementary physics and meson theory. He was also made a member of the Royal Society of London, and later awarded the Lomonosov Gold Medal, the Academic Loma Award, and the Imperial Prize.
